From observing the persistence files they go to 0 bytes and then get written. Is it from actual system time or is it from the server time setting based off of the config file? And its possible offcourse but it must have been a very good car hunter if they got found. This is done so that worlds don’t get overwhelmed by a bunch of junk or Ruined items. For instance, dropped food items will disappear after an hour, ammunition will disappear after two or three hours, and backpacks will disappear after six hours.
Put another way, persistence means that gear, shelters, and containers won’t disappear if you leave the game or the server is reset. Also they told us, that they have NO OTHER method to restart servers, because the BEC #shutdown command is not working anymore since some older 0.5x version of dayz. So I would like to ask all that are hosting the servers or having issues with persistence to check if by any chance this is not the thing happening. Sadly not doable with the current pipeline but possibility in the future. In persistent worlds, it’s possible for dropped items to be looted by other players. So anyone knows the trick into how to make vehicles accually persistent? Keep reading to find out. By writing to a temp file first and then delete -> rename to the correct one. As far as I know, vehicles are persistant unless you are on experimental or a private hive that resets everything.
Items get removed either due to their lifetime reaching zero, and all basebuilding associated items (barrels, tents etc.) Nope im playing on a public normal server. These items won’t stay in place forever, though. My car & bus survived 2-3 restarts but eventually have disappeared. When persistence is turned off, most dropped items or gear will be removed in a short amount of time.
I gave up on cars in like... .57? How can server owners gracefully end process ? monitoring_string = "9825918b2b361fb0e003f4935ce18ae6", PC / PS4 / PS5 / Xbox One / Xbox Series X, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake. © Valve Corporation. The lifetime gets refreshed when the item is being interacted with. Cookies help us deliver our Services. Persistence in DayZ refers to the option of keeping in-game items and structures intact over long periods of time. It seems to be the case that people are just terminating server (or the hoster) not gracefully but by killing the process.
O well seems to me like Dayz is just not into me as im into DAyz.

Darth_Rogue. How long these items remain intact and in-place is determined by the game’s Item Cleanup system. And carrying the glow & spark plugs xD, they are i have a base with 7 diff automoblies, switch items in them, drive them a bit every couple days or soo should help, Nice since im on a very very very low pop server now.. (3 peepz incl me) one of the 2 russians on this server is a lucky man.. and a real vehicle searcher :), Its possible the server owner could be wiping persistence. Welcome to the new GameRevolution community platform. We recently started backing up our database (in a similar method to this) and I was looking for a way to try and inject the backed up datatbase back into the server. For things that i build how long does it stay? Thanks for this clear and frank post Eugen. According to the webiste and status updates which i recently read after a period of not playing the game nomore vehicles should be persistent. Greetings Steve. Once again, Eugen showing up to do the leg work and hash out problems with people! This is a safety net for server performance to make sure things that clutter the system get removed at some point if they are not being used.
You’ll likely have noticed a persistence setting when attempting to join a DayZ server. Posts like this will go a long way to easy people’s frustrations and fears. This can happen by closing the server by termination of the process or crash. @eugeneharton I have spoken to my serverprovider (FragNet.net) and asked them how they restart the servers at the moment. cheers! Hello Eugen, maybe the writing of the persistence files can be made more resilient / atomic? But if it has the potential to be variable based on server time settings then that could definitely be contributing to or a source of the problem. Items also get removed if they are ruined if the above constraints are applicable. I get that a binarized file system offers better overall performance, but since most game servers these days are offered with the option of SSDs the difference in performance between the two is likely negligible without actually benchmarking it. In non-persistent worlds, items will disappear in a matter of hours, and sometimes as little as 15 minutes. Your character will still keep all of their equipped gear, but dropped items won’t stick around for very long. Right now since we are still unable to reproduce it, and the person who did at least according to the ticket he sent (thanks u/DAYZMISFITS). u/Eugenharton When objects are planted for persistence, where does the server get the lifetime timestamp from? have 45 days lifetime (IRL time). DayZ has a number of features meant to make the game more realistically simulate a survival scenario. If it goes off of actual server time for when the items are planted then what I'm proposing is irrelevant. In simplest terms, persistence in DayZ means that items and structures will remain intact and in-place for a long time. So this is not really a safe way to restart the server. Our actual scheduler.xml of the restart on 00:30 am using the restart.bat which works: And the part of the scheduler.xml which does not work with the #shutdown: BEC is working and doing all announcements as its in the scheduler, but the #shutdown does nothing, when its active. If a storage container or structure hasn’t been interacted with for long enough — generally 45 days — the game will remove it.
Press question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts. How long does the storage item stay?
As of this day we haven't been able to reproduce any new way that causes the items in the world to be removed. And if an item or container remains untouched for long enough, it will eventually be removed. That definitely helps make things a bit more clear as to what's going on. Thanks for all your hard work (and the rest of the team) and I hope you get to enjoy the holiday season. In simplest terms, persistence in DayZ means that items and structures will remain intact and in-place for a long time.
